Students will make an effort to help prevent water pollution from runoff by picking up litter inside El Yunque. Fees entering the forest will be waived by the USDA by coming on days designated for the appreciation of national parks. Litter causes large problems with water pollution because much of the pollution comes from litter swept up by surface runoff on it’s way into the forest. This kills the forest.
By removing physical litter, students will remove objects that are often mistaken as food by forest animals, which cause them to choke. Students will also remove plastics that leach chemicals into the rivers, poisoning water-drinkers.
As students pick up litter, they will view the beauty of the forest, while acknowledging the serious issues that currently plague the land.
After a strenuous day of picking up litter, students will relax by taking a half-day zip line adventure through the rainforest with Yunke Zipline Adventure before going back to the resort.
