Students will ride bikes from the mainland throughout Rio Grande. While they are travelling, they will stop and talk to interested Puerto Ricans concerning the efficiency of biking, as well as air pollution, encouraging the people to talk to their legislative representatives. If people express interest, they will be given a donated bike and informed about safety regulations.
Cars are a prominent source of the air pollution that harms El Yunque, leading to disruption of the nitrogen cycle. Air pollution also harms animal life, leads to imbalances in temperature, and damages crops and trees. If fewer cars are used, then there will be less excessive carbon dioxide emissions. This will protect El Yunque from further destruction from air pollution, as some people who would otherwise be riding cars take bikes instead, as well as promote exercise and good health throughout the city.
After giving away all extra bikes, students will explore the historic forts of San Juan before retiring to hotels for the night.
