Solar panels are ecologically friendly sources of energy. Tourists will install solar panels with the help of expert John Berton onto public buildings in Rio Grande to reduce the carbon footprint of the city. Over time, this will increase the green quotient of the city. Eventually, the carbon output from Rio Grande will no longer be large enough to harm what is left of El Yunque rainforest.
While some students will perform manual carpentry and installation, others will be discussing the solar panels among curious Puerto Ricans who are attending the installation. This will raise awareness and interest in alternative energy sources.
After installing solar panels, students will finish the day with a tour of the Bacardi rum factory.
